The Family Courts are now empowered to deal with de facto and same sex relationships.

A de facto relationship is deemed to occur according to a number of factors, including the length of a relationship or if there are children of the relationship.

If you are deemed to be in a de facto relationship, your property acquired before you entered into such relationship can be the subject of a property settlement.

Identical rules apply to same sex relationships.
